DO YOU REMEMBER?

hayloft, feeding the horses and
chasing them in to
Grandpa Jackson's old barn.
Do you?"

Don Jackson does!

To preserve those precious memories
and to expand his Happy Acres Plant

barn disassembled piece by piece from
where it once stood SW corner of
St. Rd. 3 & I-70 in Henry County, IN)
and reassembled about 1 mile south
and 2 miles west of where it once stood
on the old farmstead.

Howard P & Jennie Belle Jackson's Spiceland, Indian farm was located
on this land (now a BP service station on the Southwest corner of
State Road 3 and I-70 about 1 mile north of Spiceland, Indiana - 2003.

RESPONSES:
DEAR LOWELL, NO, I DON'T REMEMBER THAT, BUT I REMEMBER PLAYING SKIN THE KAT ON GRANDMA'S BACK STEPS, ON THE PIPE THAT WAS THE HANDRAIL, AND HER GRAPES , AND HER SWING IN THE YARD , AND GETTING FREEZER-BURNT ICE CREAM,WHEN I WENT TO VISIT, AND I REMEMBER HER ALUMINUM GLASSES THAT WERE ALL PRETTY COLORS, AND HER FLOWERS ON A TABLE IN HER DINING ROOM, AND AUNT AUDREY PUTTING WALLPAPER UP IN THE LIVING ROOM, AND RUNNING OUT OF PAPER, AND PAINTING THE REMANING WALL GREEN, AND GRANDMA LOVING THE JOB, AND THE BATHROOM UNDER THE STAIRWELL, AND THE SMELLS , AND GRANDPA LYING ON THE BED JUST BEFORE HE DIED, AND THINKING IT WAS ODD, THAT THE BED WAD MADE-UP UNDERNEATH HIM, AND THAT HE COULD NO LONGER TALK TO ME, I THINK I MUST HAVE BEEN 4 OR 5 YEARS OLD. WOW ! THIS TAKES ME BACK .

LOVE JOYCE

No, I don't rememberer playing in the hayloft at Grandpa Jackson's house but I do remember sitting on top of a dapple gray horse at the auction when they sold the farm and the horse sold and I asked Grandpa if he sold me too. I also remember the low kitchen ceiling and the uncles would lift me up overhear and I could touch the ceiling. Quite scary for a little kid.

Love Cookie

When I read Joyce's remembrance of Granny's living room, I had to laugh. You see, I remember the wallpaper and green paint in Granny's house because I was there. It's especially funny to me because Joyce remembers it exactly as I do. As most of you may or may not know, I spent a lot of time with my grandma (Audrey Wright) when I was little. So, I was at Granny's a lot. She used to baby-sit for me when Grandma took her eggs market and to run errands in town. Granny always made me a bean bag with a couple tablespoons of navy beans and a piece of scrap material. I had to play and sit at her feet waiting impatiently for her to finish stitching together my bean bag.

She loved to sit in the swing on the front porch when it rained and she taught me not to be afraid of thunder and lightening. She also had the most wonderful grape arbor to play under!
